the then nowSo the NOW now festival was a great success, with good music and large, appreciative audiences every night. My highlights included Robin Fox’s bombastic laser show, and the delicate interaction of the 55 piece Splinter Orchestra. I’m writing a review of the Thursday night (one of the nights I wasn’t playing) for RealTime, which will be published in a coupla months. Did you attend any of the festival? If so, what did you think of it? Related4 comments to the then now |

Yeah, posted some of my favs over at Focusing Incidents.
Liked a whole bunch of stuff for different reasons but particularly Peter Rehburg and Martin Ng at the end – just what I needed to hear.
Ja, I was really into all that Rehburg did- even when it obvioulsly cleared the room… hehe those old softie jazz-heads just didn’t know what to do with it.
I’m in two minds about Mr. Fox’s plastic fantastic disco spectacular… I’m not sure if I like the fact that it was so overtly a spectacle, or if it took away from what I had regarded as the subtlety of Fox’s Oscilloscope visuals.
Yeah the Fox didn’t do it for me this time – I side with the Typhoon show.
Fox’s stuff was a beautifully ironic development. It was basically the last 15 years of electronic music come full circle. From rave to microsound and back again. It was funny and spectacular.
As for PITA, I’m sorry to say that I just don’t get what is supposed to be so great about it. I don’t hate it, it’s just… meh. A slab of digital distortion – whoopee. I liked the last minute or so when some other textures emerged.
I thought Botborg did a similar thing much better.
There’s a nice review of the festival over at Sense Storage.
